App banners now ideal for mobile friendly website
Starting November 1, 2015 Google’s Mobile Friendly Website Test will filter app install interstitials. Not exactly sure what an app install interstitial is? You’ve probably run across a search result on your smartphone leading to an app install interstitial. Instead of showing content, the web page prompts you to install the website’s app.
Because they typically block large amounts of page content promised in the search result, app install interstitials can be frustrating for users. Google’s Mobile-Friendly Website Test update addresses the mobile website design issue. According to the search engine’s update, search results leading to app install interstitial blocking large amounts of web page content will no longer be considered mobile- friendly.
Still want to advertise your app while keeping your web page mobile friendly? In addition to proper search engine optimization (SEO), app banners are a great alternative to app install interstitials. Rather than blocking website’s content, they simply run across the top of the web page. Safari supports app banners as Smart Banners and Chrome as Native App Install Banners.
Ensure your website design stays up to par with Google’s Mobile Friendly Website Test. If your site has an app install interstitial, switch to app banners instead. Keep your web page mobile friendly and provide users with easy website navigation.
